Georg Kolbe Museum

The Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin’s Westend, located in the heritage-listed artists‘ house of the sculptor Georg Kolbe (1877-1947), is a functional, Bauhaus-influenced ensemble from 1928 with an interior sculpture garden. Founded in 1950 as a foundation for the development, preservation and mediation of Kolbe’s artistic legacy, the house today sees itself as a place of encounter, exchange and research. The museum promotes a lively artistic dialogue with exhibitions, events, and educational programs on Modern and Contemporary art, that link historical questions with the present. The museum houses an important collection of Modern art from the environment of Georg Kolbe. Core themes of the museum are classical modernism in the medium of sculpture, with a special focus on the female sculptors of this period. Dance and photography, the architecture of the Neues Bauen and, in particular, research into Georg Kolbe’s work during National Socialism also play a major role in our museum’s programme.
