Kloental Triennale
The third edition of the Klöntal Triennale expands the playing field and takes place on the Legler Areal, a relic of the former textile industry in Diesbach, Glarus South. Viewed from today, the industrial revolution no longer seems as promising as it did around 170 years ago, and the Legler area is still one of the most promising places where the future was being shaped. Thanks to the rivers and streams, Glarus developed into one of the most industrialized regions in Switzerland. From the middle of the 19th century, the textile industry flourished. Fabric printing, spinning and weaving mills powered by water produced goods that circulated on the global market. The Legler family started a mechanical weaving mill in 1857, supplied European haute couture with printed fabrics a hundred years later, and held the monopoly on denim fabric production in Europe in the 1970s. Production ceased in 2002 and the architectural witnesses to this history have stood empty ever since.
