Valkhof Museum

Valkhof Museum is situated on a remarkable location in the Netherlands. As a result of the unusual landscape with its lateral moraine and rivers, present-day Gelderland has been a meeting place for people from different cultures ever since prehistoric times. That location on the border has determined the character of Nijmegen. It was at the time the most important Roman border city and is now the oldest city in the Netherlands. It is the imperial city of the Netherlands, and at the same time the most progressive city in the country. We use our collection, exhibitions and programmes to tell stories that show how living in this border territory has shaped people. They are stories about life then, but also about our lives today. This is how we break down the chronological boundaries.
